Carl has fun playing all sorts of crazy games, so when he steps up and says that something is really disappointing, it's worth a listening to. It's a bit depressing, because I Was actually looking forward to snagging a copy of Sudden Strike, being a fan of such games as Close Combat and the like. Quote: The action of World War II is brought to nail-biting life with the impressive graphics and tactical soundness of Sudden Strike's gameplay. Problem is, there are lots of design flaws that make the game almost irritating to play. Wow, what an heart-breaking combination - a game that is graphically gorgeous and fun in its gameplay, but terribly flawed in most other production values. Still, Carl's review is insightful, and perhaps most of his complaints could be fixed by product updates? I've been playing this for about four weeks now, and have a couple of comments to add to the review. Plus points: First, there's a patch out, plus a CD crack that removes the 15 minute CD access (tacitly 'approved' by the makers, since there's a bug in he CD code apparently). Second, it's rock hard, a real challenge, so don't get it if your idea of an RTS is to mass a load of tanks and charge. Brains rather than brawn is the order of the day. If you like crawling about in the woods with a sniper picking off artillery or sending a fast jeep full of heavy machinegunners on a hit and run behind enemy lines then it's right up your street. Third, you get used to the almost-identical diddy little men (it ain't half as bad as Warzone 2100 for this anyway). Besides, shift-double click on a unit highlights all identical units on the screen (ctrl-double click for the entire map) Annoyances: The German speaking English tanks are a little strange, and multiplayer is certainly weak. ![]() Pathfinding is very weak and can be intensely irritating when going long distances, but normally if you go long distances fast you get mullered by the enemy. But the biggest annoyance in the game for me is the lack of a save game feature after completing a mission, which is really inexcusable. You can save at any time during a mission however, so your only option is to start the next mission and immediately save, which is a little clunky. Despite all this I think it's a great game, and thoroughly recommend it to anyone seeking a more cerebral, less gung-ho wargame. Sudden Strike 2 was developed by Russian developer Fireglow and published by CDV and was released in 2002. The campaign involves the Soviets and Allies, against the Germans and a new country, Japan. I don't think Carl played this game very long, and if he did, I just don't think it's his type of game. Software registration code. This is the game that Red Alert 2 should have been, it's a semi-realistic RTS where all the units look authentic. That's why they're hard to tell apart actually.
